First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Laura´s Smart Apartment in Igls, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a modest building tucked into this quiet corner of Innsbruck. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t need to shout about themselves. This four-star property sits right on Heiligwasserwiese, and I mean right there — you can literally ski to the door during winter season. The free parking was already a win in my book, especially since finding a spot anywhere near Innsbruck’s ski areas usually costs a small fortune.

Location & Neighborhood

Igls is one of those places that feels like a secret, even though it’s technically part of Innsbruck. I get why couples rate this location so highly — it’s got that perfect balance of mountain village charm without being completely cut off from civilization. You’re about 15 minutes from Innsbruck’s old town by tram, but honestly, once you’re here surrounded by the Patscherkofel mountain, you might not want to leave. The Patscherkofelbahn cable car is practically next door, which explains that whole ski-to-door thing they advertise.

The Apartment Experience

Laura´s Smart Apartment lives up to its name — these aren’t just hotel rooms, they’re actual apartments with proper kitchens and living spaces. Mine had this clean, modern setup that felt more like staying at a friend’s place than a hotel. The smart home features actually work (which isn’t always a given), and I appreciated being able to control everything from lighting to temperature through the tablet they provide. The kitchen was fully equipped, which came in handy since Austrian grocery stores have some pretty amazing local products you’ll want to try.

Mountain Access & Activities

Here’s where this place really shines — the access to outdoor activities is incredible. During winter, you can literally step out and be on the slopes, but I visited in summer and was blown away by the hiking opportunities. The Zirbenweg trail starts practically from the hotel’s doorstep, and it’s one of the most beautiful walks in the Alps. Even if you’re not a serious hiker, the cable car takes you up to some stunning viewpoints. I spent an entire afternoon just sitting at the Patscherkofel summit restaurant, watching paragliders drift down toward the valley.
